The Third Man

As’ Somos (The Way We Are) was founded in 1981 by Lorna Burdsall. US-born Burdsall trained at the Julliard in New York under Alfredo Corvino, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham and Anthony Tudor. She fell in love with a Cuban Bacard’ rum executive in New York and in 1955 moved back with him to Havana. After the Revolution, Burdsall was a founder member of Danza Nacional (now Danza Contemporánea de Cuba; ) and helped introduce new techniques into Cuban modern dance.
Lorna is best described as an artistic magpie, assembling her work out of theatre, music, dance, masks and contemporary folklore.
