The Third Man
The British Film Institute has rated this film as the ‘Best British film of the 20th-century’ – and for good reason. Carol Reed’s stylish thriller represents the almost perfect film noir with a story that follows Joseph Cotton’s character as he wanders Vienna’s dark night streets in search of his childhood friend, Harry Lime (Orson Welles). In tribute to the 50th anniversary of the film’s release, the Filmmuseum is screening a freshly restored copy.

As’ Somos (The Way We Are) was founded in 1981 by Lorna Burdsall. US-born Burdsall trained at the Julliard in New York under Alfredo Corvino, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham and Anthony Tudor. She fell in love with a Cuban Bacard’ rum executive in New York and in 1955 moved back with him to Havana. After the Revolution, Burdsall was a founder member of Danza Nacional (now Danza Contemporánea de Cuba; ) and helped introduce new techniques into Cuban modern dance.
Lorna is best described as an artistic magpie, assembling her work out of theatre, music, dance, masks and contemporary folklore. To give you an idea of her eclecticism, she uses flashlights for lighting, shammy leathers for costumes, Soviet army-surplus silk parachutes for backdrops, poetry by Lorca and Mart’, musical sources ranging from Astor Piazzola to Chopin; her young granddaughter is the principal dancer. Lorna also holds dance classes for children and adults in her house; ).
